One of my favorite trends for Spring/Summer 2014 is the classic white shirt.  Interesting details and pairing with unexpected pieces can update this closet staple.  In Alexander Wang’s SS14 collection, classic items like a button down shirt and trench coats were styled in a way that felt so fresh and new.  The top button was secured but the rest were left open with nothing underneath.  And while the MIA undergarments looked so chic on the runway, I’m not sure that would fly in real life.

I added my favorite nude cami underneath the white shirt to make it more real life appropriate.  Next came a pair of tweed, high waisted shorts to add some texture and color.  Finally, I threw on a sleeveless coat for more warmth.  Seeing Victoria Beckham in all her stunning sleeveless coat looks made me really want one for myself!

If there’s one takeaway from this post, get yourself a white button down for the warmer months if you don’t have one already.  Then, play around with all the different ways to wear it and pair it.

NYFW is in full swing and I’m getting inspired by all of the Fall/Winter 2014 trends on the runways.  But, for the time being as we prepare for warmer weather (please hurry!), let’s focus on a favorite trend for Spring/Summer 2014.  Many shows from Valentino to Pucci to Mara Hoffman showed global influences for the upcoming season.  Prints, embroidery, fringe and beading were all over the runway.

When I first saw this sweater, it looked like it could belong to an old lady from an Eastern European country who had embroidered it herself.  I loved the idea of pairing something so traditional looking with edgier pieces to make the look undoubtedly current and relevant.  Super shredded denim (obsessed with these!), black on black high tops, a backpack and a topknot completed the look.

After weeks of trying to put together a 2 piece ensemble for the Black Tie Ball, I gave up.  I wasn’t loving anything in my price range on Rent the Runway either and was nearly out of ideas when I came across this simple white dress on Singer22’s clearance section.  With the additional 40% off, the dress was a steal but it was also a risky final sale item.  The risk paid off.  With the right belt, accessories and especially for the price, I was satisfied with the end result.

In the weeks leading up to hubby’s annual Black Tie Ball, I was dead set on wearing a crop top ensemble.  I ordered and returned countless skirts and crop tops trying to find the right pair.  It had to show just a sliver of skin.  The volume of the skirt would determine the type of crop.  And the fit of the skirt (especially the waist line) would have to be perfect since it would be exposed.  In the end, I gave up and ended up going with a simple white dress I found on clearance online (that post coming soon!)  If you want to try this look for a semi-formal event like a wedding, just take the skirt to a knee or tea length.  I’d love to see your pictures if anyone attempts this look!
